Iowa Introduces Bill to Reduce Registration Fee for Limited-Use Older Motor Vehicles

A bill (H.F. 2024) has been introduced in the Iowa State Legislature to allow any vehicle that is 25-years old or older and used only for exhibition, entertainment or educational purposes to be registered for an annual fee of $5.

We Urge You to Contact House Transportation Committee Members (List Attached) Immediately To Request Their Support for H.F. 2024

  • Under current law, a motor vehicle which is 25 years old or older may be registered as an antique vehicle upon payment of the regular annual registration fee for the vehicle.  Certain vehicles that are 25 years old or older and used only for exhibition, entertainment, or educational purposes may be registered as "limited use" vehicles, subject to a registration fee of $40 for a two-year period.

  • H.F. 2024 eliminates the current "limited use" registration fee for antique motor trucks, truck tractors, road tractors, and motor homes and establishes an annual registration fee of $5 for any motor vehicle that is 25 years old or older and used only for exhibition, entertainment, or educational purposes.

  • H.F. 2024 provides that the registration only allows driving of the vehicle upon the public roads to and from state and county fairs or other places of entertainment or education for exhibition or educational purposes and to and from service stations for the purpose of receiving necessary maintenance, or for the purposes of transporting, testing, demonstrating, or selling the vehicle.

  • H.F. 2024 continues to allow owners the option to register an antique motor vehicle for unlimited travel upon payment of the regular registration fee.

DON’T DELAY!  Please contact members of the Iowa House Transportation Committee immediately to request their support of H.F. 2024.  Please e-mail a copy of your letter to Steve McDonald at stevem@sema.org.  Thank you for your assistance.

SAN Sets July 13th As “Collector Car Appreciation Day”

Annual Event Acknowledges Importance of Collection and Restoration of Classic Cars

The SEMA Action Network (SAN) announced July 13, 2012 as “Collector Car Appreciation Day.”  The date marks the third commemoration in what has become an annual event to raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society.  SAN is again working to secure a Congressional resolution to recognize the day’s significance.

In the previous two years, the U.S. Senate helped launch national Collector Car Appreciation Day by passing resolutions at the SAN’s request.  As a result, thousands of Americans have gathered at car cruises, parades and other events to celebrate our nation’s automotive heritage.  By taking part in these events around the country, these automotive enthusiasts and related businesses ensured that their passion was honored and recognized.

SAN will maintain and publicize a list of scheduled events to commemorate America’s time-tested love affair with the automobile.  Click here for more details.  Individuals, car clubs and business owners interested in publicizing events should contact SAN Director Colby Martin at 909/978-6721 or san@sema.org.  If you are unable to celebrate on July 13th, SAN encourages events to be scheduled throughout the month of July.

Please remain active with the SAN’s legislative efforts throughout the year and spread your enthusiasm for this cause to friends, family, car club members and others who appreciate the automotive hobby as much as you do.  As you’re aware, joining the SAN at http://semasan.com/page.asp?content=signup&g=semaga is a simple process.  Most importantly, it’s FREE and carries no obligations.

Visit the SAN Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/SEMA-Action-Network/236661948182?ref=ts and click "like" to stay up-to-date on hobby-related legislation in your state and across the country, announcements, upcoming events, links to hobby resources and photos of SAN member cars and trucks.
